Marilyn Merbach

Marilyn Merbach has been a passionate spinner since 1982 when she gathered together with other spinners in the Butler area to found the Butler County Spinners and Weavers Guild. Almost always interested in the finer fibers, she has taught classes in the specifics of working with fine fibers and how to make your spinning wheel work for you.

She has sponsored fiber booths at Maryland, Michigan and New York fiber festivals always promoting American Cashmere fibers. She developed many knitting patterns specifically for the yarn produced by Cashmere America Cooperative from the cashmere fleeces collected across the United States.

She has been a breeder of cashmere goats since 1988 when she brought her foundation animals back to Pa from Longmont Colorado. The national organization of Cashmere Producers of America was formed at that time and she has been a member since its forming. As a member of its board of directors she was selected to be their treasurer for several years. Together with eastern United States breeders she was a member of the group which founded Eastern Cashmere Association and was on its board of directors. The marketing organization of Cashmere America Cooperative as made use of her expertise for promoting American Cashmere fibers and Yarns to knitters, spinners, and weavers here in the U.S.
